We now know the identity of a woman, found dead inside her Lexington home. She's been identified as 78-year old Marilyn Hegge.
Police are now investigating her death as a homicide.
Police were called to the home on Red River Road at around 3:00 p.m. Sunday after Hegge's granddaughter found the woman dead. It was Hegge's birthday.
There were no signs of forced entry in the home. Police do say Hegge lived alone.
The coroner says she died from major head trauma.
Police have sealed off the home as they continue to search for clues. They have not released many details about the homicide, but they have not named any suspects.
Neighbors and family of the victim tell us she was well loved and didn't have any known enemies. Hegge was a retired nurse from the neo-natal unit at the UK Hospital.
