LEXINGTON, Ky. (AP) - Kentucky forward Ramon Harris was taken to
a hospital after colliding with a teammate during the first half of
Kentucky's victory over Lamar on Wednesday night.
Harris, a junior, was preparing to run up the floor when he ran
into guard Michael Porter. The two appeared to hit heads and both
fell to the floor. Harris tried to get up, then fell back to the
ground. He laid there several minutes before paramedics took him
away on a stretcher with his mother at his side.
Harris was alert and undergoing tests at University of Kentucky
Chandler Medical Center, team spokesman DeWayne Peevy said. Harris
had movement in all his extremities, but the nature of his injury
had not been determined.
Coach Billy Gillispie said doctors were checking Harris' back
and spine for damage but that preliminary tests were encouraging.
Porter also had trouble getting up after the collision but was
able to walk off the floor with an ice pack over his left eye. He
returned to the bench late in the first half with 10 stitches over
the eye and did not play the remainder of the game.
