Thursday night would have been her birthday, but instead family and friends gathered to remember a teenager who's life was cut short by a car crash.

Kayla Poteet died last month in a car accident in Harrison County. Her sister, Brandi, spent days recovering at UK Hospital.

On Thursday, her family and friends held a vigil in her honor at the Harrison County soccer field, where she was a player.

"It was both a happy night as well as a sad one," said Kayla's father, Frank Poteet. "She was a wonderful daughter, with a big heart and a joy to be around."

Brandi Poteet who was injured in the same accident is improving and expected to make a full recovery.
