A woman who became the victim of a robbery outside a Lexington store quickly took things into her own hands.

She chased after the man who took her purse in a Walmart parking lot and made sure he ended up behind bars.

Police identify the victim as 26-year-old Elizabeth Davis.

She was shopping at the store on Nicholasville Road late Thursday night.

David tells police she was wheeling her shopping cart to her car and started unloading groceries when a man ran by and snatched her purse from her buggy.

Refusing to be the victim, Davis, along with three other people in the parking lot, chased after the suspect and held him down until police arrived.

Police arrested and charged Joseph Smiley with first degree robbery. He's behind bars at the Fayette County Detention Center.

Davis did suffer minor injuries as a result of the struggle but is expected to be fine.
