Kentucky State Police say two children are dead after an early morning house fire in eastern Kentucky.
Trooper Joe Veeneman says the children were found Wednesday in the basement of a two-story house in the rural community of Olympia in Bath County.
Veeneman says the fire started just after 6 a.m. and destroyed the home.
He said two adults and four children were home at the time of the fire, and the adults and two children escaped.
Veeneman said the adults and one child were at University of Kentucky hospital in Lexington. He said the adults are in stable condition and the child is in critical condition. He said the fourth child was treated and released from St. Joseph's hospital in Mount Sterling.
Although state police have not yet identified the victim's names; Bath County school officials says the two children dead are 8th grader Kayla Withrow and 7th grader Lucy Withrow.
They also say their sister, 9th grader, Danielle Withrow was injured in the fire along with their 6th grade brother AJ Withrow.
Bath County school officials say the children's parents are Mr. & Mrs. Virgil Withrow.
Investigators are now working to determine the cause of the fire. They say it could take several days to determine because of all the damage.
