Very slow moving showers and thunderstorms will move into our area overnight and Sunday. The potential for flooding will be heightened in southern and eastern Kentucky.
After 35 consecutive years of service as the Fayette County Clerk, Don Blevins announced Wednesday morning that he is resigning from his position.
Blevins served the first eight years of merged government as a member of the Urban County Council from 1974 to 1981.
He began his role as County clerk on January 4, 1982 and went on to serve a 27 year tenure.
Blevins last day is January 1st, 2009.
During his announcement Wednesday morning Blevins said, "While the Governor and General Assembly correctly and prudently addressed the crisis associated with the pension system, the changes ultimately affects each individual differently. Due to this pension reform, it is to my benefit that I retire completely."
Blevins successor will be appointed by County Judge-Executive Sandra Varellas to serve out the remainder of the current term which will expire the first Monday in January of 2011.
