Witnesses Report Massacre at Church in Congo

KAMPALA, Uganda (AP) - There are reports of a massacre at a
church in a remote part of eastern Congo.
Officials and witnesses say attackers hacked to death scores of
people who had sought refuge in a Catholic church the day after
Christmas.
There are varying reports of the death toll. An aid worker says
more than 100 people were killed. Congo's military puts the number
dead at 120 to 150.
Survivors and witnesses say the killings happened near Congo's
border with Sudan. Uganda officials say that's close to where
armies of those two countries and Uganda began a recent offensive
aimed at rooting out a rebel group, the Lord's Resistance Army.
The Uganda army and the rebel group are accusing each other of
carrying out the massacre.
