PADUCAH, Ky. (AP) - A grand jury in Paducah will review a felony theft charge against the local coordinator for Toys for Tots.
Jason Carper is accused of stealing about $12,500 he solicited, saying a building was needed to store toys.
The Paducah Sun reported city police Detective Troy Turner testified at a preliminary hearing Tuesday, saying a review of the charity's local bank account and Carper's personal checking account showed the money was "going out as it was coming in."
Carper was arrested Dec. 22 and has pleaded not guilty. He is
represented by attorney Will Kautz.
Toys for Tots is run in conjunction with the U.S. Marine Corps. The charity's Web site said it provided toys for more than 7.5 million children during the holidays in 2007.
