It's been a deadly December when it comes to fires. Just this month alone, flames claimed the lives of 14 people across the state, with 10 of those deaths in Central Kentucky.
In 2008, unofficial numbers show 65 have died in fire related deaths, down from 70 deaths in 2007, the year 10 people were killed in a Bartstown house fire.
State Fire Marshall says some of these deaths could have been prevented, with some of these tips.
1. Never use an extension cord for a space heater
2. Keep space heaters away from flammable materials
3. Inspect all alternative forms of heat
4. Have a working smoke detector
5. Have an exit plan
