Thanks to the quick actions by her two grandchildren, a Lexington grandmother is safe tonight. However, the mobile home she shares with them was destroyed by fire.

The fire broke out in a bedroom of the home at the Imperial Estates Mobile Home Park on Newtown Pike at about 7:30 p.m. Friday. Neighbors say it quickly grew from a small fire to a large fire. They feared the worst knowing that the owner was in fragile health but fortunately, her grandchildren helped get her and her dog out safely.

Fire officials are investigating the cause of the fire but one of the grandchildren who resides in the home believes it was caused by a candle burning in one of the bedrooms.
