FRANKFORT, Ky. (AP) - Former attorney general and longtime Democratic lawmaker Greg Stumbo has been sworn in as speaker of the House.

Stumbo took the oath Wednesday morning after the House convened.

The Prestonsburg attorney served in the House from 1980 to 2004, most of those years as majority floor leader. He served as attorney
general four years before reclaiming his legislative seat.

Stumbo is pushing legislation to expand gambling opportunities at horse tracks across the state. The Prestonsburg Democrat told reporters that his endorsement as House speaker improves the odds of passing the measure.
