Newly appointed House Speaker Greg Stumbo
says he will ask the Legislative Ethics Commission to look into his
personal business dealings.
The Prestonsburg Democrat announced his intention in a speech on
the House floor Friday after a story in the Lexington Herald-Leader
raised questions about his dealings with a variety of businesses
that the newspaper said have interests before the state
The newspaper, citing disclosure forms and securities records,
said those businesses include coal companies, banks and law firms.
In a statement on Thursday, Stumbo said he has fully complied
with ethical rules and financial disclosure requirements.
Stumbo didn't say when he would officially request the ethics
panel to begin the review.
