Three Airport Executives Resign Amid Spending Scandal

Three top officials at the Blue Grass Airport are now out of a job. The resignation of three of the top four airport executives comes on the heels of an investigation on their spending.

Operations Director John Coon, John Rhodes, who oversaw the airport's finances, and John Sloan, the director of planning and development all resigned Tuesday morning.

Earlier this month, former Executive Director Michael Gobb also resigned following accusations of spending hundreds of thousands of dollars of airport money on travel and lavish dinners among other expenses.

Former board chair Bernard Lovely was also asked to step down by the Urban City Council before his term ended, which he did not do but instead completed his term. Bobby Owens was unanimously voted on to be Lovely's successor.

Owens says he is saddened by what happened, but believes it was the right thing to do.
