Second Flu Case Confirmed In Lexington

A second case of the flu has been confirmed in Kentucky, this one in Lexington.

A Fayette County doctor tested and confirmed a case of influenza. That result was backed up by state health officials Wednesday afternoon.

The first flu case in the state was in Adair County and was announced last week.

Kentucky's Department for Public Health says flu activity in this sate is classified as "sporadic" at this time. That's the lowest level of flu activity.

Flu season starts in October and lasts through May. January through March is typically when the most number of cases are reported.

They are urging people who have still not gotten a flu vaccine to do so. Health officials say that applies especially to high-risk patients, including children and the elderly.
