Nearly two dozen dogs and puppies were found Tuesday afternoon without food or shelter in Montgomery County. When authorities came 18 were found alive, five of them were dead.
Neighbors say the adult dogs had been abandoned for months and with the puppies, the situation was more dire.
Neighbors say they had been doing what they can to keep the dogs alive, feeding them and trying to keep them warm.
The puppies and their mothers are now at the Montgomery County Animal Shelter. The Sheriff's Office has also stepped and says the owner of the dogs could be facing criminal charges, punishable by fines or even jail time.
