Before the snow started, freezing rain fell across Central Kentucky.
That turned roads across Central Kentucky into skating rinks for drivers.
Tow truck drivers were busy early Tuesday morning trying to get to drivers who lost control of their cars on the ice.
One of those cars that had to be towed was a WKYT crew near the I-75 northern split in Lexington.
A number of roads are said to be iced over.
Power outages have been reported in Danville and Lancaster.
Officials at the University of Kentucky canceled classes that were set to start at 11 a.m. Classes beginning at 11:00 a.m. and thereafter will meet. Employees are to report to work at 10:00 a.m. except those required to report earlier under plan B.
Eastern Kentucky University canceled classes for Tuesday.
Fayette County and many other school systems called off school for the day as well.
