Garrard County Cleans Up Mess From Storm

The damage caused by this ice storm is substantial in nearly every community.

Nearly 70 percent of Garrard County is without power. Officials there are now concerned about the safety of their drinking water.

The city cut water service to much of the county on Wednesday morning because officials said they need to have water in reserve in case of fire in the city limits.

Water service has since been restored to most customers, but people are still being advised to boil their water for three minutes if it is to be used for drinking or cooking.

Every city employee in Lancaster was called in on Wednesday to help cut away downed trees and branches to help make it easier for power company officials to do their job and restore power.

In addition to damaging power lines, many homes have been damaged as trees crack and fall.
