Fire Scare At Elementary School

Students at Russell Cave Elementary in Lexington weren't allowed to begin the day at their school early Thursday morning after a fire scare.

A custodian spotted smoke in the gym shortly before 7 a.m. and called 911.

A Fayette County Schools spokeswoman says a fan burned out sometime overnight which also knocked power out to the school.

Students were rerouted to Mary Todd Elementary off Paris Pike as a result.

There was no damage to the building.

School officials say students will return to Russell Cave Elementary School at 1:00 and will be dismissed as normal.
