WASHINGTON (AP) - President Barack Obama is calling the State
Children's Health Insurance Program "only the first step."
He's signed a reauthorization bill that extends health coverage
to 4 million uninsured children. Obama calls the measure a "down
payment" on his commitment to coverage for every single American.
At an East Room signing ceremony, he adds that "health care for
our children" is the obligation of a "decent society."
The bill went to the White House fresh from House passage on a
vote of 290-135.
The measure calls for spending nearly $33 billion more on the
program, which now enrolls an estimated 7 million children.
Lawmakers raised the federal tobacco tax as a way of generating
that revenue.

How many of those kids are legally Americans? Obama's home state of Hawaii had big healthcare plan for kids..they rescinded it after so many people who could afford healthcare for their kids got on board for free stuff. Afterall it is their tax dollars paying for this free stuff.

You would think that something like this would have been passed years ago. Our children should come first and healthcare for our citizens should be a top priority for any president. It's sad that it has taken so long to get a president who will actually do something for Americans rather than worrying about the rich and lining their own pockets.

Let's all remember this is the bill Bush and the republicans voted against, actually Bush vetoed it twice---sad.
