E. Coli Prompts Health Alert in Central Kentucky

E. Coli concerns continue as more cases pop up across the nation and here at home.

A health alert was issued Monday, after two possible cases popped up in Fayette County.
Testing is underway to confirm the infections.

State health officials now report six confirmed cases of E. Coli food poisoning related to eating bagged or bunched raw spinach.

During the alert, health department officials in Fayette and other counties will increase surveillance among doctors, clinics, and private laboratories.
It's not yet clear if the two E. Coli infections in Fayette County are of the 0157:h7 strain that has killed two people and sickened more than one hundred others.
State leaders and county health departments are bracing for more cases.
