Whitley County Hit Hard By Storm

By  |

Some counties in southern Kentucky were so heavily damaged by the strong storm on Wednesday afternoon that state of emergency have been declared.

Experts with the National Weather Service toured Whitely County on Thursday to determine if a tornado caused some of the damage there. After viewing the area, they determined straight line winds were the cause of the damage.

High winds Wednesday took off the roof off a building at the University of the Cumberlands.

Much of downtown Williamsburg was without power from the storm.

People in the area are now cleaning up down trees and limbs, scatted across Whitely County. There were many trees across the county that were uprooted, some landing on homes and vehicles.
