Durbin Confirms Ethics Probe into Burris

SPRINGFIELD, Ill. (AP) - The Senate's second-ranking Democrat,
Dick Durbin, confirms that a preliminary Senate ethics
investigation is under way into his fellow Illinois senator, Roland
Burris.
There are renewed questions about how Burris landed his
appointment from Gov. Rod Blagojevich, who was later kicked out of
office.
An editorial today in the Chicago Tribune says Burris has lost
the benefit of the doubt over events surrounding his appointment.
Burris told reporters in Illinois last night he's always tried
to be transparent and has "nothing to hide."
Burris has admitted having more contact with Blagojevich
advisers about the Senate seat than he described under oath to a
state House impeachment panel.
The Democrat also acknowledges that he tried to raise money for
Blagojevich.
