LOUISVILLE, Ky. (AP/WKYT) - Five children remain hospitalized following a school bus crash that killed two preschoolers on a narrow country lane in northern Kentucky.
State police said Monday the bus overturned and crashed into a tree, killing two children headed home from their Head Start program in Carroll County. Nine children, all preschoolers, were on the bus along with two adults.
State Police released the names of the children killed on Tuesday. They are Ryder Deitz and Caroline Tuttle. Both children were three years old.
Officials with Kosair Children's Hospital in Louisville said six of the children were taken there and two were discharged.
Chief Nursing Office Cis Gruebbel says of the four remaining children, three are in stable condition in intensive care with skull fractures. The fourth is expected to be discharged Tuesday.
Gruebbel said the roof of the school bus caved in, and the injuries ranged from skull fractures to broken bones and internal injuries.
A fifth child remains at UK hospital as well. The hospital tells us the child there is in critical condition.
