A crash over the weekend is hitting students at the University of Kentucky hard.
Sunday night they gathered on campus to remember 19-year-old John Kirksey III.

John Kirksey III, a UK student, lost control of his car on the Bluegrass Parkway Saturday morning hitting a guardrail. He was killed in the crash.

On Sunday night, friends of the young man came together on campus to remember him.

Kirksey's roommate, Terry Cunningham, says the college freshman was outgoing, friendly, and well-known at UK.

"He was popular and well-liked. He didn't have any enemies," says Cunningham.

Tyrone Williams, Kirsey's best friend, says the two have been close since the 8th grade.

"He's like a brother to me," says Williams.

He says Kirksey drove home to Hardin County on Friday to get a suit for a dance this weekend, and never made it back.

"I still don't know why he died, or why he had to die. I guess I'll never know," says Williams.

It's a hard reality for these students at UK who are still dealing with the face their classmate and friend, John Kirksey III, won't be coming back from a weekend trip home.

Friends of Kirksey say his family is planning his wake and funeral for later in the week.
