Flu Cancels Classes

SUMMIT, Ky. (AP) - Two eastern Kentucky school districts have
canceled classes because of a high number of flu cases.

The Independent of Ashland reports that Boyd County school
officials decided Wednesday to close for the rest of the week after
several sick students had to be sent home.

Greenup County schools spokeswoman Scarlet Shoemaker says
officials there decided on Tuesday to close for the rest of the
week after attendance, which is normally around 94 percent, fell to
81 percent.

Other school districts in the area have reported a decrease in
attendance because of the flu, but not serious enough to warrant
closing.
