The cold front is now working into eastern Kentucky with winds gusting to near 40mph at times. Temps have dropped into the 30s behind the front and we've had reports of sleet and snow mixing with the rain in Lexington.
FRANKFORT, Ky. (AP) - State officials say Kentucky's annual unemployment rate for 2008 tied the 1993 record high of 6.4 percent.
The Kentucky Education and Workforce Development Cabinet announced the rate Friday. The rate for 2007 was 5.5 percent.
The U.S. unemployment rate climbed to 5.8 percent in 2008, making it the highest annual U.S. unemployment rate since 2003 when it was 6 percent. The U.S. annual unemployment rate was 4.6 percent in 2007.
Nearly 700,000 Americans lost their jobs during the month of February according to the U. S. Department of Labor.
