Fire Destroys Bath County Trading Post

A teenager playing video games is credited with saving his family from their burning apartment.

The family owns and lives above the Route 60 Trading Post in the Polkville community in Bath County.

Fire crews arrived after 3:00 Monday morning and say the fire was difficult to fight. They say flames trapped between the first and second floors were inaccessible and caused much of the damage.

Philip Barbour, who owns and lives in the building says he feels sorry for the vendors who rent retail space from him because they have lost everything as well. He says he has some insurance, but isn't sure what exactly will be covered.

Arson investigators were called to the scene and say it may take some time to figure out what caused the devastating flames.

The building is a total loss but fortunately nobody was hurt.
