The man accused of murdering Aimee Charles was arrested Tuesday afternoon in Dothan, Alabama.
Charles was gunned down inside her Mount Sterling home on Richmond Avenue. Charles was shot through a window while she tended to her 3 year-old daughter Lexie.
The mother was killed just soon after she found out Lexie's cancer was in remission.
Police say the suspect, Andrew Smith, and Charles did know each other. However Charles mother Melody Dunn, says they were only acquaintances.
"He is known as Dre on the streets and he's a drug dealer, I think this was just a bad drug deal gone wrong," said Dunn.
She doesn't believe her daughter was the intended target. Police wouldn't comment, but did tell 27 NEWSFIRST several other adults were in the apartment at the time of the shooting.
"It's the worst pain I have ever felt, it's just a senseless tragedy," Dunn went on to say.
Smith is charged with murder, and will be extradited back to Kentucky likely Wednesday.
Visitation for Charles was on Tuesday night at Gateway Christian Church in Mount Sterling. Her funeral will be Wednesday at 10:00 a.m. also at the church.
