A Severe Thunderstorm Watch is out for for much of northern and eastern Kentucky until 9 p.m. This is just east of the Lexington metro.
The owner of the Acres of Land Winery in Madison County says he simply doesn't know what happened.
Lowell Land built the restaurant at his winery in 2005. Within a matter of minutes, it was destroyed by fire early Saturday morning. The restaurant and winery are located on Barnes Mill Road a few miles outside of Richmond. Fortunately, the restaurant is across the street from the actual winery. The winery was not effected by the fire.
"I think it would have destroyed us if we lost that building because you can't make wine overnight," Land said.
Land is devastated by the loss of the restaurant which also included a tasting room and gift shop. However, he says he's thankful no one was hurt. He is trying to be optimistic despite the loss and says he will continue to keep the winery open. The winery also has a venue for special events which he says will continue to take place.
The winery will re-open on Tuesday for wine tasting, sales and farm tours.
Fire investigators will be on scene again on Monday in hopes of determining what caused the fire.
