Family Sues Coaches In Death Of Teen Athlete

LEITCHFIELD, KY -- The parents of a 13-year-old boy who collapsed during a school basketball practice and died last fall have filed a lawsuit against his coaches, the Grayson County News Gazette reported, and published in the Sunday edition of The Lexington Herald-Leader.

Keith Michael Walker, a student at Grayson County Middle School, collapsed during a practice Oct. 14 and was pronounced dead at Twin Lakes Regional Medical Center. The paper said "apparent sudden cardiac death" was determined to be the cause.

The boy's parents, Dr. Michael and Amy Walker, have filed suit against coaches George Meredith and Bill Lee, whose negligence, they allege, contributed to his death.

To handle the case, the couple has hired Todd Thompson, the same attorney who represents the parents of Max Gilpin, a Pleasure Ridge Park High School football player who collapsed and died during practice last summer.

Gilpin's case received national attention after coach David Jason Stinson's indictment on a charge of reckless homicide in the death. Stinson maintains his innocence, reports The Lexington Herald-Leader.
