A split second decision lead to a violent crash that killed one person and sent three people to the hospital and shut down a busy Lexington road on Thursday afternoon.
Police say a driver of an SUV swerved to avoid hitting an animal and ran head-on into a car, near the intersection of Old Frankfort Pike and Alexandria Drive.
The impact of the crash pushed the Ford Taurus into a power pole.
There were three people in the car and just the driver in the SUV. All four people were taken to the hospital. We're told the person who died was in the car.
She's been identified as Tina Conrad from Woodford County.
Accident reconstruction units were on the scene for four hours, trying to figure out exactly what happened.
The road reopened just before 6:00 Thursday night.
