The 2010 race race for the U.S. Senate just got even more interesting. Kentucky Attorney General Jack Conway, a Democrat, jumped into the race with an announcement on his website that went live at noon. It said Conway loves his current job, but has been encouraged by leaders and his family to run for the post in Washington.
Conway says his official announcement will come Monday in Louisville and will include some "surprise guests."
Conway won his first statewide race just two years ago and will now face Lt. Governor Dan Mongiardo for the Democratic nomination. Mongiardo has the backing of Governor Steve Beshear and the Hazard physician has raised more than $420,000 for his campaign.
Incumbent Republican Jim Bunning is seeking re-election and so far has not attracted a primary opponent although State Senate President David Williams is among those considering running on the GOP side.
