Police in Kentucky are on alert for a suspect who took off from a Nashville, Tennessee hospital.

They are looking for 36-year-old Gary Johnson. He was believed to be driving north on Interstate 65.

Johnson was in police custody at Metro General Hospital being treated for a taser shock given by police.

He's charged with kidnapping.

Investigators say Johnson attacked the deputy guarding his room Wednesday.

They say he wrestled the guard to the floor, taking her pistol.

The deputy was treated for minor injuries.

Police say Johnson hijacked several vehicles as he traveled around Nashville.

He was last suspected of carjacking the driver of a red Ford Mustang north of Nashville.
