AWOL Soldier Released from Fort Knox

LEXINGTON, Ky. (AP) - A soldier who surrendered to military
officials after being absent without leave has been released from
Fort Knox.
Twenty-four-year-old Darrell Anderson of Lexington turned
himself in earlier this week after being absent without leave since
last year.
Anderson's attorney Jim Fennerty says Anderson left the post
Friday morning with his mother and was on his way home.
Anderson deserted and fled to Canada last year rather than
redeploy to Iraq with the Army's 1st Armored Division. Anderson
says he deserted the Army because he could no longer fight in what
he believed was an illegal war.
Fennerty says Anderson would be on extended leave for a month
then would receive a discharge of other than honorable.
