Police are investigating whether the two students also vandalized a Mount Sterling car wash.

The teen-age boys each might face charges of burglary and criminal mischief stemming from the school damage, estimated at $7,000 to $8,000, Montgomery County Sheriff Fred Shortridge said. Formal charges had not been filed Tuesday morning, but that might happen later in the day, Shortridge said.

"The young men broke into a field-house, stole some paint, poured it all over the football field and soccer field and three or four different vehicles parked there," Shortridge said.

The vandalism happened after 9 p.m. on Sunday. A security camera at the school recorded the vandalism, and the boys later admitted to it during questioning on Monday, Shortridge said.

Jeff's Car Wash also was damaged Sunday night, and police are trying to see whether there is a link to the two teens.

Someone "went into the car wash and dipped the brushes into the paint, which hardened the bristles, and you can't use them now," Shortridge said. Paint also was splattered on the walls of the car-wash bay.
