Deputies: People Trading Food Stamps For Drugs

A drug roundup early Thursday morning sent several suspected dealers to jail.

The Pike County Sheriff's Office teamed up with Operation Unite and other agencies to make more than a dozen arrests.

Detectives say tips from local communities led to the arrests.

In some cases, investigators say the suspects were trading drugs for food stamp cards.

"These cards are worth up to 200 dollars in food, but they are trading them for about 70 dollars worth in drugs," said Melvin Sayers with the Pike County Sheriff's Office

A total of thirteen people were arrested in the roundup.
