LOUISVILLE, Ky. (AP) - A judge declined to block enforcement of
a new state law. Under the law some sex offenders can be forced
from their homes.
U-S District Judge John Heyburn ruled tonight on the law. It
imposes new restrictions on how close sex offenders can live to
schools and other places where children congregate.
Heyburn said it wasn't yet clear whether the law would bring
irreparable harm to those who are forced to move.
Ten sex offenders sued the state last month. They claimed the
new restrictions are unconstitutional.
The law is scheduled to take effect at midnight. It bars sex
offenders from living within one-thousand feet of schools,
churches, playgrounds and other places where children gather.
