Chase, Crash Close Major Louisville Expressway

LOUISVILLE, KY -- Police closed the eastbound lanes of the Watterson Expressway between Westport and Shelbyville roads for more than an hour last night after a cross-city car chase ended with a vehicle crashing and catching fire. Numerous police cruisers and firefighters were called to the scene around 8 o'clock last night.

Police used a Taser on the driver of the red Dodge Durango after he crashed into a wall, said Brittany Fischer, with MetroSafe Communications. Fischer said that there were no serious injuries, and the man was taken into custody.

It was unclear whether anyone else was riding in the Durango at the time of the crash. The high-speed pursuit started on Preston Street, and the vehicle eventually entered the Watterson at Poplar Level Road.

The vehicle then traveled east on the Watterson, past several exits, before it crashed into a wall just before 8 p.m., reports The Louisville Courier-Journal.
