A NASA astronaut made a stop in Lexington on Wednesday.

Bob Crippen was the pilot of the space shuttle Columbia's maiden voyage in 1981 and commanded three other shuttle missions. He later served as director of NASA's Kennedy Space Center.

Crippen currently serves as Vice Chairman of the Astronaut Scholarship Foundation, Crippen says we have to keep youth interested in science because we are losing the lead in that area.

Crippen presented a $10,000 scholarship to UK senior Ryan Fischer from the Astronaut Sscholarship Foundation.
