First Camry Hybrid Rolls Off the Line

GEORGETOWN, Ky. (AP) - The first Kentucky-made Toyota Camry
hybrid rolled off the assembly line today.

That put the Japanese automaker in position to take a larger share of the
gasoline-electric vehicle market in the U-S. The Camry is already the nation's most popular family sedan.

Plans call for production of up to 48-thousand more at the Georgetown Toyota plant this year. The new hybrid provides better gas mileage than most conventional compact vehicles with 43 miles per gallon on the highway and 37 in the city.

Toyota vice president Don Esmond says production at the Kentucky plant marks a monumental step toward Toyota's commitment to hybrid technology.
