Father Accused of Killing Children Pleads Not Guilty

Updated: Thu 6:12 PM, Oct 12, 2006

LOUISVILLE, Ky. (AP) - A man pleaded not guilty today to four counts of murder in the deaths of his children. Prosecutors say they're keeping open the option of seeking the death penalty in the case.

42-year-old Said Biyad appeared in court this morning. A grand jury handed up the indictment yesterday.

Commonwealth's Attorney Steve Tedder says no decision has been made about whether to ask for the death penalty for Biyad if he's convicted.

Biyad is accused of attacking his wife with a mallet, then killing his four children with what police described as a hunting knife on October sixth.
