Comair Files Suit Against Blue Grass Airport

Updated: Tue 9:12 AM, Oct 17, 2006

Comair is suing the federal government and the Lexington-Fayette Urban County Airport over the August crash of Comair Flight 5191.

The airline filed the suit today in U.S. District Court in Lexington.

Comair said in a written statement it intends to reach fair settlements with the families of the 49 people killed on board the plane on August 27th.

The airline added that the lawsuit is necessary to make sure other parties it feels are also responsible for the crash pay their fair share of the liabilities.

The plane crashed after taking off a runway too short to handle the plane. Only one air traffic controller was working at the time of the early morning crash, one less than required by the Federal Aviation Administration.
