DANVILLE, Ky. (AP) - U.S. Representative Ben Chandler says a
Democratic takeover in Congress would likely keep him in
Washington, D.C. next year and out of the governor's race.
Chandler spoke yesterday in Danville saying "I'm unlikely
to run for governor" if Democrats take over the House.
Chandler (D-Ky.) lost the 2003 gubernatorial campaign to current
Governor Ernie Fletcher, Kentucky's first Republican governor in 30
years, by 10 points.
Chandler then ran for and won the Congressional seat Fletcher
Chandler says the scandal surrounding former Congressman
Republican Mark Foley of Florida doesn't make a Democratic takeover
of Congress a sure thing.
Foley resigned from Congress last month after suggestive e-mails
and instant messages he sent to male pages were made public. Since
then, the FBI has launched an inquiry into the correspondence.
