A rumor mill at a Lexington middle school spins out of control, spurring a letter home to parents.

Parents of students at Leestown Middle School received the letter explaining the situation. The principal tells 27 NEWSFIRST, essentially it was the result of some students threatening to beat up other students.

The rumors started and it grew from there.

Principal Katheryne Kettle says she knows what it's like to have children in the school system and she felt it was important to be in contact with parents about the situation.

Kettle says students at Leestown are safe and in no danger. She says the families of all the students involved in the situation have been notified.

Kettle says she doesn't want to feed the rumor mill instead she wants parents to know that she and the faculty at Leestown Middle take matters like this very seriously.
