The controversy over the upcoming eminent domain vote continues to escalate. WKYT talked to both sides about the issue on Tuesday. Whether you vote yes or no there are very differing opinions about what the future for Lexington's water supplier should be.
If the community votes no on eminent domain they will ask the city council to stop the pursuit of the water company. But could council members continue to try to purchase Kentucky American Water?
Officials with the company say city council members have gone on the record saying they will support the public vote. However officials with For Local Ownership of Water or FLOW say that the issue may not be so easily resolved, if members of city council choose to continue to pursue the use of eminent domain to condemn the water company.
When you go to the polls on November 7Th, there's only one actual question on the ballot. Shall the proposed Ordinance which authorizes and directs the Lexington-Fayette Urban County Government to purchase by the most cost effective and reasonable means, including by the exercise of the right of eminent domain be passed?
It is the last item on the ballot and one both sides say could be the most important thing you vote for.
