A Lexington woman is in the hospital after police say her husband accidentally shot her.
It happened on Maidstone Court, near Clays Mill Road in south Lexington, just after 2:00 Tuesday afternoon.
Police say the woman's husband was cleaning his handgun, thinking it was unloaded, when it went off.
The bullet went through the wall and into the hallway where the victim was walking, hitting her in the lower back. Police say her injuries were not life threatening.
She was alert. She met us at the door. She was in some pain, but it appeared the bullet did not exit. It was in her, so they were going to take her down to UK, perform surgery to get the projectile out," said Lt. Edward Hart with Lexington Police.
No charges were filed because police say it was just an accident.
