Lauren Fannin, of Lexington, and Lindsay Harp, of Frankfort, both 25, died when they were swept into a flooded storm culvert near the University of Kentucky campus following torrential rains early on the morning of Sept. 23.

The sorority members planted a rosebud tree and two rose bushes - the sorority flower - in front of the KD house on the campus Quad They placed small plaque that was dedicated next to the plants and a larger plaque was placed in the lobby of the house. After the planting, the sorority members sang several ritual songs to go along with a "candle pass."

The sorority has already established a memorial fund. Part of the money collected was used to purchase the plants and plaques. Contributions to charities the sorority supports are planned and possibly a scholarship.

Lauren Fannin was pharmacy student, in the graduate program at the University of Kentucky, and Lindsey Harp was a registered nurse.

Contributions can be sent to the KD Memorial Fund for Lindsay and Lauren, c/o Farmers Bank, 201 W. Main St., Frankfort, KY 40601.
