It started as a promotion between Oprah Winfrey and Kentucky Fried Chicken. But a KFC spokesperson says the company has never had such a response to a special-meal offer.
All people had to do was print out an online coupon and they did printing out millions of them all over the country.
The coupons were available on Oprah.com for 24 hours beginning Tuesday after Oprah announced the promotion on her show
Each coupon promised two pieces of grilled chicken, two individual side orders, and a biscuit, while supplies lasted.
But the response was so overwhelming, supplies rain out in many stores and Thursday afternoon KFC decided to stop the give-away.
The Louisville-based chicken chain is asking customers to take a rain check for the new product.
KFC President Roger Eaton said Thursday the company will mail coupons to customers in stages so people can enjoy their meal in a more relaxed setting. It will throw in a free soft drink to sweeten the new deal.
