A major winter storm is on the way to the bluegrass state. Local high water issues are possible early Wednesday and that will be followed up by heavy snow and sleet. Significant accumulations are likely Wednesday night and Thursday.
BARBOURVILLE, Ky. (AP) - Authorities say former Knox County coroner Jerry Garland has been killed in a mowing accident near Barbourville.
Kentucky State Police in Harlan say Garland was on a riding mower cutting grass on an embankment Sunday around 3 p.m. when the vehicle started sliding down.
The Lexington Herald-Leader reports that the mower nose-dived off the embankment and struck a ditch line.
The vehicle landed on top of Garland, causing extensive head and internal injuries, state police said.
