Child Improves After Bout With E. Coli

LEXINGTON, Ky. (AP) - A five-year-old Madison County, Kentucky
girl is on a ventilator at Kentucky Children's Hospital after being
diagnosed with E.coli.

Haley Caldwell is reported in serious condition and family
members say E.Coli is to blame. The girl and her 18-month-old
sister were both admitted to the Lexington hospital. Haley Caldwell
began having severe diarrhea on October 15th and was taken to Patty
A. Clay Hospital in Richmond where she stayed for a few days.

The family says she was then taken to Kentucky Children's
Hospital after her pediatrician diagnosed her illness as E.coli.
The 18-month-old girl spent three days in the hospital and was
discharged yesterday afternoon.

Health officials are still investigating what may have made the
Madison County girls sick. The Madison County Health Department
confirms they do have an E.Coli case, but will not say who it
involves.
